Good Fit Books
A good fit book for your child is one that can be read independently with 99% accuracy. Much time will be spent, especially at the start of the school year, teaching students how to choose books that are a good fit for them. They will require much support from adults as they practice doing so at libraries in the classroom, school, neighborhood and other bookstores.
I-PICK Method
Students should use the following 5-step method for selecting appropriate books to read independently.
1. I choose a book
2. Purpose-Why do I want to read it?
3. Interest-Does it interest me?
4. Comprehend-Am I understanding what I am
reading?
5. Know-I know most of the words
